Effect of color of organic pigment on coating performance

2022-09-27

What characteristics of organic pigments have an impact on the paint performance? Organic pigments endow the paint with color properties of color brightness, coloring power and hiding power. Let's make a brief introduction.

(1) Organic pigment color light (H) also refers to the degree to which a certain color deviates from its corresponding pure color (monochromatic light). When light of a certain wavelength or some light of different wavelengths are mixed, they will present different color performance, also known as color phase.

(2) The tinting power of organic pigments (also known as tinting strength) is a measure of the color depth of the pigment to be colored. The factors affecting the tinting power of the pigment are not only related to the performance of the pigment itself, but also related to the composition, material and application conditions of the colored object. Generally, the coloring power of the standard sample is defined as 100%, and the sample to be tested is compared with the standard sample; The tinting power of latex paint refers to the grams of latex paint color paste used when coloring 1000g titanium dioxide to 1/25 standard color depth of the original color of latex paint. The less the amount of color paste added, the higher the tinting power.

(3) The hiding power of organic pigment refers to the ability to cover or change the color of the colored object. Organic pigment with strong hiding power usually has high scattering power, which depends on the thickness of the coating, the light absorption ability of the coating and the color difference between the coating and the colored object. Generally, the organic pigment and dispersed resin are ground together to form a color paste, which is evenly brushed on the black and white lattice glass plate, so that the amount of pigment that the black lattice is just covered is expressed in g/cm2.

The color light of organic pigment is the key to color finding in coating production; Coloring power and hiding power are the main factors to measure the amount of pigments used in paints, especially for the expensive organic pigments, which are related to the formulation cost of paints and corporate profits.
